"Mom & Dad Came to My School! Bridging Home/School Connections"
by Jennifer Mursu, Schaumburg
School District #54, Cook County. This project offers activities
for families involving the curriculum themes of Literacy, Science,
Math and Celebrating the Young Child. Each evening consists of
interactive experiences to promote parent involvement and reinforce
a home-school connection.
"Partners in Play" by Missi
Berg, Woodstock School District 200, McHenry County.
The intent of this mini-grant is to utilize picture books, videos,
and picture sequences to support the learning of communication
and play skills and promote social relationships between children
with autism and their typically developing peers. Digital cameras,
camcorders, and binding equipment will be used to create picture
books and sequences of the actual children playing and participating
in classroom/daily living activities.
"Play it Right" by Heather
Tratt, Des Plaines Community Consolidated
School District 62, Cook County. The purpose of this project is
to teach children with limited play skills to expand their play
schemes within known scripts. Theme boxes containing props and
books for various themes, will be created and used at school,
then sent home for families to enjoy the structured play with
their child.
"R.A.I.S.E. (Regulation Activities Individually Supporting
Education)"
by Kelly Haeflinger, Huntley,
District 158 Preschool Program, Kane County. The intent of this
project is to increase parent, staff and student awareness of individual's
self-regulation systems; it's impact on learning and school performance,
and to demonstrate strategies to improve student's self-regulation
skills in the classroom. Several informational training sessions
will take place that explain self-regulation as well as demonstrate
activities that can be implemented in school, home, and community
settings.
"Supporting Sensory Development at School, Child Care and
Home"
by Kristen Ford, Schaumburg
School District #54, Cook. Parents and staff will increase their
awareness about Sensory Integration and Sensory challenge issues
through training sessions. Several portable "Sensory
Integration Kits" to support children with these challenges,
will be created for use at the Community Child Care Center as well
as to send home with parents for use with their child in the evening
or for the weekend.
"What Happened at School Today?" by Tara
Punwani, Evanston/Skokie
Community Consolidated School District 65, Cook. This project will
expand communication, specifically social skills, through the
use of voice output devices within the classroom, therapy sessions
and home environment in order to meet the diverse and significant
needs of the students.
"Who am I? Who are You? Similar, But Different!" by Michelle
Miller,
Community Consolidated School District 93. This mini-grant creates
an environment that is rich in diversity, with materials and resources
continually available that foster a sense of community and acceptance
of all people regardless of age, gender, race/ethnicity, family
diversity/dynamics and different abilities. Resources and activities
will be determined through a needs assessment of classroom and
community preschool families.
